Copper Mineralization Discovered in Drill Intercepts at Callinan’s Coles Creek Property

September 6, 2006

VANCOUVER, BC September 6, 2006 – Callinan Mines Limited is in the midst of a scheduled nine hole drill program at its 100% owned Coles Creek property near Houston, B.C. Four NQ diamond drill holes drilled to date on separate targets have, on visual examination in the field, shown altered and brecciated porphyries with sulphides, pyrite and varying amounts of chalcopyrite. The most significant hole is COLE 3A, which intersected mineralization in several different types of rock. Chalcopyrite was observed over 126.8 meters of core; 44.8 meters of black quartz porphyry breccia containing disseminated chalcopyrite mineralization followed by 20.1 meters of chlorite shear contact zone containing increased amounts of disseminated chalcopyrite mineralization and 61.9 meters of granodiorite containing disseminated chalcopyrite mineralization. Note that the drill widths stated above are drill intersection widths and may not represent true widths.

The company is optimistic about these initial results, but cautions that assays will not be available for four to seven weeks. “We’re certainly on the right track here,” President Mike Muzylowski explained today. “This hole has identified the structure containing interesting mineralization which is potentially copper bearing. We’re looking forward to assay results which will help to determine the significance of this discovery. Many other targets remain to be tested on this large property”.

The company has expanded its holdings at Coles Creek, BC to include promising ground to the South West of the existing claim blocks. The company has claimed an additional 1846 hectares, and now the holdings total 9455 hectares which cover a potential multi phase porphyry system.

The Coles Creek project is overseen by Pat DeVeaux P.Geo, a qualified person as defined by National Instrument 43-101, who has reviewed the contents of this news release.
